SNYDER'S REVIEW
The third sequel to 1999’s “American Pie,” “Wedding” takes
the original cast of high school buffoons and graduates them to post-college,
pre-marital buffoons. Jim (Jason Biggs) is marrying Michelle (Alyson
Hannigan), the band camp expert from the first two films. And in
between dress shopping, bachelor parties and the ceremony itself,
the same band of mischievous youths finds themselves in one ridiculous
situation after another. There are those that work, like the vulgar
and rude Stifler (Seann William Scott) pretending to be refined to
win over a bridesmaid. But there are also those that fail miserably,
like when Stifler must inevitably ingest dog droppings the day before
the wedding. The “Pie” trilogy has always been filled
with potty humor, but it also cares about its characters and, at
its core, is a series about friendship and, in Jim, a good guy trying
to do the right thing. “Wedding” makes its missteps,
but it is distinctly different from the other crass, offensive and
mean-spirited comedies of this year.
