| The Business of Strangers isn't so much a female take on In the Company of Men as it is a white-collar version of Baise-moi. Writer/director Patrick Stettner, though, is less anti-man than he is sensitive to the way women have had to forsake humanity in order to rub shoulders with the most aggressive of male counterparts. Julie Styron (Stockard Channing) is the pinnacle of success, having just snared the CEO position at her corporation. The irony, though, is that she is still painfully aware of her physical relationship to her glass ceiling, one that can shatter at any time and remind her of her unfortunate (oftentimes chosen) subordination to men and unfulfilled dreams. Comments by David Johnson I would definitely recommend this movie. For those of you that have seen In the Company of Men, this movie could be just as good, and equally disturbing. A heavily indie movie, but looks very good also. |
