Comments by David Johnson Will Smith has finally proven himself as an actor that can fill different roles besides the roles he filled in Men In Black and Wild Wild West. Play Muhammed Ali, he's finally found a role that he can really get into. And yes, [director] is an extremely talented director. Sure at times the movie was melodramatic, but after later reflection, also necessarily so. My first final qualms were with the final fight, and the very clichic nature of the final fight. As Ali came back from sure defeat, his final round of slow motion punches seemed like something that's been done over and over again. However, the movie is also a movie about Muhammed Ali. You are supposed to see this from his perspective. Therefore since the fight was the most important event for him, perhaps it did occur in this fashion. Michael Mann has a lot of talent, but doesn't direct in a style that caters to people like me. I think I feel the same way about this movie as I do about Heat and that smoking film. I think they're great films. I can see the ability in the film, and I can tell that the film is very well done .. I just don't have very much interest. It's one of those hard calls to make about a movie. If I were reviewing this movie professionally I would probably give it a rave review. Screw my own personal tastes, the movies great. However, I'm not. I manage a very small web site...the only people that read this probably will only take my opinion into consideration very little. Yes the film is a great film, it's well directed, Will Smith is wonderful. I liked it yes, but not nearly as much as I should have. |
